I second the camera. Sorta. 2 years ago i brought it all the time and had a lot of nice pics. This year started bringing it and it wasnt pretty. So i didnt take it anymore. Oh yeah, the rest of the season sucked too. Maybe it wasnt the camera afterall. Its not really a superstition but i never fish the first eel i grab from the bucket. Always search for another one that isnt so easy to catch.

I gotta admit I've become obsessed with the first cast curse. It's happened to me so many times that I find myself reeling in too fast or casting in the wrong place or doing something wrong the first cast just so I don't catch a fish on the first cast of the night! problem is, I know I could be screwing myself since the first cast is such a high percentage one. I don't take it too far though, just the first cast of the night, not like the first cast at a new spot or anything like that.

If I know I am going away for a weekend I will not shave for as long as possible...longest going without shaving for fishing was 3 weeks.
If I get up for a morning trip I will not brush my teeth.
I also had a lucky Tilley hat that used to wear all the time but I took the family to Mickey's house and lost the hat....STILL devastated

For some reason I feel like I have better luck fishing on an empty stomach when I'm hungry, so I try not to eat much before I go. I also did the beard thing for over a month.

The following were told to me by a friend who used to guide out of Cutty
no whistling
no bananas
don't say "pig"
Originally I thought he was kidding till one night I began to whistle and he about went off his nut!

Buy a nice big insulated fish bag to hold all those 40#+ fish you're expecting to nab.
You'll be blessed with twinkies for at least a year.

Must have a "Hat" and for me it must be on Backwards while fishing.
Must shower before fishing no matter if its in the middle of the night or not...Have to do it...Steve and I call this "prepping up" Its a Must!
Only use Irish Spring original soap(only when fishing)
Every single step that I have done for many years must be repeted the same exact way...I will not leave the house unless its done in the order that I have always done..
Never wait to wash the gear off, cannot go to sleep unless its done the second I get home..
Must change my line every two trips no matter if fish were caught or not...

No swearing at the fish. No use of foul language when discussing fish.
"No c'mon you blankety blank fish, hit!" I've asked people not to swear at the fish and I've told them that I won't fish with them if they continue. Not kidding.
It's ok to use foul language when talking about people though - otherwise the language is not descriptive and it doesn't ring true.

NO BANNANAS on the boat
NO BANNANAS at the Derby House
NO BANNANAS in the car when fishing
NO BANNANAS Ever in the area of fishing...no Bannana Cookies, Bannana nut muffins...nothing...NO BANNANAS
Ask Raider Ronnie about the day we had a 6 person charter that lost twelve shots of wire over four hours while every other boat was slamming the fish around Race Point....then...the dreaded Bananna came out...trip is over...into P-Town Harbor we go...get the bannanas off the boat...clients are told to go to lunch and be back in an hour...Ronnie and I get a taxi to Nelson's...new spool ofwire...meet the clients...back to Race Point...90 minutes later...6 clients with 2 fish over 20lbs each...time to go home
then there was the time Captain Alan and I took two other friends including my GF out east chasing footballs...average catch per boat that day was 6 or 8 fish and we only landed two and raised one more...on the way in we were eating some cookies and talking about what the hell went wrong...then I ask what kind of cookies we were eating as they had an unusual taste...that's right...DAMN BANNANAS
Many Many stories like this...so my point is....NO BANNANAS

I don't know if it would be considered supersticious or religious, but I always belt out a few Hail Marys on the way to fish.

Im affraid to bring cameras, and the fish on the first cast.
Im also a little superstitious of nights that look TOO nice, water that looks TOO nice etc., I have had some horrible nights in those cases. But that doesnt neccessarily mean I wont go out.

Good question George
For me the kiss of death is the word "guarantee "
guarantee we will catch fish ...lol
Just like the old cooking show , I think his name was Justin Wilson
he would say it a lot and he also said "just a little bit of wine"
and drink down a glass full !!
