Well - he was using a proxy service from Taiwan but that's as far as I could check in a minute. There was a couple instances over the past week like this and those have been direct addresses in India. But I popped those addys so now the dingleberry is bouncing off a proxy in Taiwan.

But I'm going to investigate this further as now I'm a little tweaked.

OK - what happened today?

Well, someone scripted a "bot" (an application to do certain functions on web servers - good or bad depending on intent) that would access forums much like S-B's that would register, and reply spam to existing posts. Now this script is crafty in the sense that it searches for specific message board types, uses somewhat random names from random ip addresses often using remote proxies from other parts of the world. What does it do? at this point, not much more than spam links.

I know of a few hundred forums this has happened to and their may be thousands more as this picks on all kinds of sites - big & small.

I have a plan to prevent this from happening again and it will be executed throughout the next 2 days. Everything should be pretty much normal now. I will also partner up with numerous other web owners affected by this and we will likely pursue legal action on this.

Again, this does nothing other than spam right now and no negative damage of any sort - just REALLY FRIEKING ANNOYING

Thanks & I'll address any questions (other than specific security measures relative to this site for obvious reasons )

Although this sounds like a great idea... I'll bet he doesn't have any nuts... Because, if he did, he'd probably be busy playin' with them instead of buggin' us!

Going after 100's of sites, could this be a "terrorist" attack with the intent of chewing up bandwidth that would otherwise be utilized to conduct business? Take people away from what they would noramlly be doing to repair the damage?

Just another conspiracy theory...........

Too bad...

I was kind of looking forward to seeing my favorite celebrities nude.

I guess I'll have to rely on the porn that slips through the mail filters at work.
