braking tides

this wk at the canal ........suked ???? for me it did only sm fish at 1hr before and 1hr after the turn, bigger fish if you jig or fish nights w/ skins or rubbers .not alot of bait yet .some p-bait but not alot ...ive been at it for two wks, sense getting back from alaska. had some fair braking fish on the west tide 2 wks ago, chasing big schools of p-bait. my guess is about 10 days to two wks before it starts.. i hope. a good cold n/e storm would help ......thats the poop kids that stright from stiffy crystal balls

I have about 18 hours there over 2 nights with no sign of life aside having an eel bit off by one bluefish.

Excuse my canal ignorance...

What is a "braking" tide?

Stiffy's a bit challenged in the grammer dept.

"Breaking" tides are when slack low tide occurs right around first light. Some believe this is the best time to target fish in the canal, particularly with topwater plugs.

I suppose you could also have a "braking" tide too, which would be the period two hours just prior to slack as the tide slows from a sprint to a crawl. We may have just coined a new term here at S-B...

Had decent action yesterday even though the tide was a bit later. Small keepers. Need more bait for sure.

I'm with ya on the 10 days to 2 weeks prediction. Unfortunately I'll be over fishing the derby for those tides, but I guess thats not a bad place to be either.

I like the breaking tides.

Speaking of breakage, is your camera broken? We're still waiting for your pictoral essay from Alaska.

I thought they were called "braking tides" because the bike guys slam on their brakes and cast from the road when they see a fish?

Man I read this and I'm rolling on the floor laughing. The only thing that pops into my head is " Stiff Tip caught the Bass Hawg typing disease"

I found fish on the " bottom of the tide" at the Canal last night. Nothing over 15# but fish none the less.

No boat, back in the suds.

Breaking could also refer to one's bones or the like. At low tide all the slippery rocks are exposed, thus a predisposition to break a rod, leg, arm, or god forbid your casting finger. One time I slipped and spilled a big bucket of live herring, but I was high enough up on the rocks that none of them made it back to the water.
