I hope they have it in Bourne again and would like to see some sort of day of the event tournament. The Canal is a location where there could be a catch and release tournament held where a person could catch a fish and call for someone to come weigh it before releasing it. They would have to have a golf cart and be allowed to travel on the access road but I think it could be done. I got 2 fish last year just before the event.

I received a nice email from Kevin Blinkoff at OTW regarding the Cup. I sent an email yesterday in regard to my pin and shirt not showing up, the lack of the truck and the alleged no VS stuff. I have posted Kevin's reply below:
Hey Paul,
Shirts and pins are on the slow boat back from the factory and should arrive this week- we'll get them in the mail as soon as we have them in hand.
We thought we were going to be able to offer a Toyota truck as the grand prize, but at the last minute something unexpected came up with Toyota- something about a gas pedal-
We're planning to get a truck sponsor on board for next year, but due to the unfortunate timing of the Toyota recalls we had to make a decision, so we decided to go ahead and put up 10k in cash instead.
We did not offer sign-ups until we had changed the prize rules to reflect the10k, but if you feel duped, we understand and will refund your entry.
As far as the taxes go - I'm no accountant, but tournament winnings are taxed as "Other Income" at your tax rate - so even if you are in the highest tax bracket, I doubt it would be taxed at 45%.
VS has been on board all along - We're still giving them away as monthly prizes. You know, you can't believe everything you read on those internet forums...
If you have any questions or concerns, you can give me or Chris a call at anytime
Thanks,
Kevin

OTW has tried to do the right thing all along, they have my support.I think the three fish limit will be an improvement.I think the points handicap has improved.I think the tournament is fun and with the addition of the NY NJ teams the competition has picked up.They listen to the anglers concerns and make most of the necessary adjustments.

I'll still make my donation. I haven't won anything in the last 2 years I signed up but I know it gets me out a little more. So that's good enough for me.

Well said Chris.

Um---I hope you realize that the Canal is 7 miles long, and if someone was fishing the east end, and the cart was where the tent was last year, there'd be no point in releasing that fish after the "official" weight was recorded. Golf carts aren't known for speed and on a nice day, that road is wall to wall walkers.
Oh, and then if the guy was fishing the east end AND on the other side........

I agree it would be tricky but if there was enough interest and some strategically placed officials it could be done and might attract some of the catch and release only fisherman.

And they should put sinks on the outside of the porta potti's as well as the entrance to the big tent.

Gloves maybe?
Actually if you selected an areas based upon pole numbers you could concentrate the competition (we all know how to fish with others don't we?)and make cheating impossible and minimize the amount of officials needed, all just a thought but I don't want to hijack the thread. I just see the Canal being a spot where a C&R tourney could be run.
