The year that the Kenmore Station got flooded, I was living in Arlington on Mass Ave. There was a stretch of Mass Ave, just after the high school, that was bordered by hills coming down from Rte 2.

We had about 3-4 feet of water in our basement, and a foot of water on Mass Ave, with the manhole covers spraying water like a water fountain.
The only good thing was that my roommate and I had nothing of value in the basement.

As for the snow equivilent, there would be more structural damage from snow, with trees and roofs falling down. That doesn't diminish the comparative cost that the water damage will create.
You'd be screwed either way.
