I use a thule system (roof rack, ski rack). Works well for me, and locks. I wouldn't leave reels on it for long though, especially expensive ones... But it works well to just transport and secure the rods.

I use the same. Works for me. can hold up to 4 rods and a snowboard.

I'm happy with my rod vault also. Just need to protect the stem of the reel or it will get banged up a little. My reels are rashed up pretty good so I could basically care less.

I have a used thule snowboard rack that I'll let go for 50 bucks. Needs a new lock. I never locked them as I wouldn't ever leave them on top un attended

On the Rod Vault, how strong are those front clips? Do they every release open while driving? Stupid question, but from the pics on line, I cannot tell.
