My question is, Did Obama actually say he wants the price of gas here to reflect the same price as in Europe?

I thought I remembered that he did but not 100% sure......

Time to offer another fuel alternative. When gas prices skyrocketed in the early 70's the country switched tr uck ing to diesel in about 5 or 6 years. This same process is occurring again now with natural gas (compressed and LNG). You will see nat gas marine engines in the not too near distant future.

Westport Innovations is the global leader in this technology. Regardless of which OEM LNG nat gas engine you buy it will have Westport technology likely through at least 2018 (massive patent protfolio).

That is because most people don't use their boat very much...

Probably because the price of fuel!!!

I would love to see a move to nat gas for vehicles...the problem is it will take some infrastructural built out (convert gasoline stations to carry nat gas). This is just not happening to any great extent. If I was running this would be my major energy platform:
a) move to nat gas NOW for transportation
- immediate national work project built out infrastructure to support this (ie create millions of NEW jobs today!) No handouts, just solid jobs
b) invest heavily in energy R&D (all phases) and provide strong incentives for kids to study math, science and medicine, no incentive for anything else. (probably full tuition deduction with good grades)
c) incentives for auto companies to produce and sell nat gas vehicles.
d) incentives for consumers to trade in gasoline for nat gas vehicles

This will do 5 huge things for this country:

1) Buy us some time...probably at least 100-200 years to fully develop electric vehicles, battery, etc
2) get us off the foreign fuel sources
3) clean burning (somewhat greener)
4) create jobs
5) improve technology for long term

What I want to know how come we don't have anyone running who talks like this?

I do not know that Obam ahas said that on camera. However, his energy secretary, Mr Chu, said this...

"Somehow,” Chu said, “we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

Steven Chu's Europe gas quote haunts President Obama - Bob King - POLITICO.com

This is our Secretary Of Energy who said this. I cannot imagine who benefits from skyrocketing gas prices, other than folks who own green technology companies. Raising gas prices hurt a lot more folks than they help.

This issue will clobber Obama this summer when we're paying $5 a gallon.

All I know is when I first got my boat it was at that 1.75/gal
so, average day of off shore I burn 35 Gal and it cost me $65 plus injection oil (that cost is up too)

Now 35 Gal at 3.65 is $127 bucks for the day.

Consider I always have min of 1 other guy on the boat,,
That's still cheaper than a charter boat.

I know, I have to pay for the boat, tow insurance, boat insurance, maint. bla bla bla. Heard it all from the wife. Who Cares when your having so much fun!

All this means to me is you have to stay on the water longer to get your moneys worth

If you don't like the cost don't buy the gas, that will show them. LOL

Love Fishing, wish I caught fish more often.

I try not to worry about it becasue it is out of my control. If it's $100-$125 a day on the water I guess it's the same as playing at a nice golf course for a round, taking the luckly lady out to a nice dinner and drinks, etc, etc.

The secretary of energy said that in 2008 before he was even in that role.

And with context its a bit different than YOU want it to come off.

Chu told the newspaper that he favored raising gasoline taxes gradually over 15 years to coax consumers into buying fuel-efficient cars and discouraging sprawl.

And after the fact, Obama was against raising the gas tax.

This world is run by THE RICH. The President of The United States is a mere pawn in the grand scheme of things. They have no power when it comes to money....ie...oil, banking, Federal Reserve etc.....

"The secretary of energy said that in 2008 before he was even in that role."

Right. And saying something that stupid would normally preclude him from being in that role. But heck, we have a tax cheat as Treasury Secretary, and we have an Attorney General who wants to try enemy combatants in US civilian courts, as well as giving machine guns to Mexican drug-runners so they can kill Americans more efficiently. So why not put one more certifiable lunatic in Obama's Cabinet?

"And with context its a bit different than YOU want it to come off."

Put it in any context you want. European-level gas prices are bad for most Americans, not good.

"and discouraging sprawl"

Oh, that's awesome!!!! Our energy secretary wants to make it too expensive for us to live in the suburbs. Has it occurred to him that we who live in the suburbs, like it there? That we're there for a reason?

Our energy secretary hopes that gas/oil becomes so expensive, that we'll all have to sell our houses and cars, move to big cities, and buy buss passes. And Likwid thinks that's a good thing.

Well this Marine says f*ck that and the commie liberal horse they (and you) rode in on.

Jesus God Almighty. Our Energy Secretary wants to herd us all back to the big cities. And Likwid is OK with that...

According to you, Obama's Energy Secretary wants to make it impractical for folks to move away from big cities into suburbs. I said that's totalitarian and un-American.

And you say I went off on a wacko tirade?

According to me?

All I did was posted what his thoughts were on how to get people to buy more efficient automobiles, you took it however you so choose, which was in the sense of a wacko tirade calling people names and saying they're 'un-American'.

Which is rather un-American of you.

Now you're saying that you never suggested that the goal of higher gas prices was to reverse suburban sprawl? You never said that? Then someone is logging into your account and signing on as you, at 2:04 PM today...

"Chu told the newspaper that he favored raising gasoline taxes gradually over 15 years to coax consumers into buying fuel-efficient cars and discouraging sprawl."

Discouraging sprawl means discouraging folks from moving out of the cities and into the suburbs. You said that's what our energy secretary wants. I didn't say he wants that, you did.

Not sure your point.
In case you thought I meant 6k is the cost of my haul, the haul is about $400
The topic is the cost of fuel and I and a few others pointed out thats usually the cheapest part of boat ownership when you add things up.

Likwid, here is what you posted...

"he favored raising gasoline taxes gradually over 15 years to coax consumers into buying fuel-efficient cars and discouraging sprawl."

He (Chu) favors high gasoline prices to (among other things) discourage sprawl.

Your post above, states explicitly and unequivocally, that Secretary Chu wants to discourage sprawl by raising gasoline taxes.

Have you been painting inside with the windows shut? Please remember to open them a crack...

If I'm the GOP nominee, that's all the ammo I need. "Everyone who wants to be stuck in big cities with a bus pass, vote for Obama. Anyone who wants the freedom to raise their kids in a nice suburb and own a car, vote for me..."

I, for one, believe Americans should be able to choose for themselves if they want to live in a city or the suburbs. I don't like gas prices restricting choices. That's less freedom.

Correct.

But Likwid is now saying that he never posted anything that suggested that Chu wants to discourage sprawl (which is what I inferred from his post where Likwid said Chu wants to discourage sprawl). Likwid is calling my interpretation "spin".

I'm not saying Likwid wants to discourage suburban sprawl. I'm saying that according to what Likwid posted, Secretary Chu wants to discourage sprawl.

Now he's telling me that's just my "spin".
