We used to use the electramate reels for yrs cod fishing and wire jigging bass. My buddy by mistake bought one of these kristal xl601 reels and now we all use them for wire line bass and deep water cod etc. Great for deep water applications or a commercial day on the water. They have like a 28 pound max drag and are true workhorses.

My shimano torium 20 is used for the rec days and also as a kite reel,they are great for the price and comparable in quality to Rons Daiwa 40 suggestion.We originally purchased the torium 20 for its drag power as we had a lot of trouble reeling in large bass at anchor over at gay head with the strong current and the huge ass bass that used to be there in season.
