Got to disagree.
Torium is a very nice reel but my opinion terrible for cod.
Your jiggin away, set a hook on a fish and Bam, the anti reverse pops and the handle spins back and smashes the top of your hand.
I prefer the Daiwa 40h

We used to use the electramate reels for yrs cod fishing and wire jigging bass. My buddy by mistake bought one of these kristal xl601 reels and now we all use them for wire line bass and deep water cod etc. Great for deep water applications or a commercial day on the water. They have like a 28 pound max drag and are true workhorses. Kristal XL-601 Electric Kite Reel

My shimano torium 20 is used for the rec days and also as a kite reel, they are great for the price and comparable in quality to Rons Daiwa 40 suggestion. We originally purchased the torium 20 for its drag power as we had a lot of trouble reeling in large bass at anchor over at gay head with the strong current and the huge ass bass that used to be there in season.

never had that happen?? shawn fishes with me and another friend alot and we both have torium 30's. i luv it smooth and fast. i would not buy the 16...20 would do. i get 450yd of 65lb powerpro and 60' top shot of 60lb mono on mine. could easy get 300yds on a 20 the 16 would be tight.
you really appreciate the fast line retrival on those 300' drops, ask jared, he fished all last year with a old penn. we were up in 1/3 the time he was
my top choices would be the shimano, saltist or penn,no particular order. in star drags...

Google Shimano Torium anti reverse.
The guy on the truth thatskes the power handles also sells a tricked out improved anti revers that fixes the problems with them.

Thank you guys, keep the opinions and suggestions coming. Any one of them are an improvement on what I have now. It seems like it ends up being a ford/chevy thing lol.
