Angry I'm stumped

For the past 3 hours I have been trying to replace the little rubber bail bumper on my old green 704 penn. Now it looks simple enough, theres a hole in the housing and you slide the rubber shaft through the hole. Sounds wasy right??? The problem I'm having is that the rubber is wider than the hole I've tried warm soapy water, I've tried wrapping thin mono around the rubber and then pulling the mono through the hole....

Whats the secret???

Screw the bail and covert it.

Otherwise get a razor blade and take a small slice out of it just so it will fit in the hole, then push in in with something (ie. a punch)

Well theres a thought. Maybe I should axe the bail.. Then there would be one less thing to worry about.
I'll try the razor blade trick and if it fails I'll order the conversion kit-

Thanks tattoo:
