I worry about it, but have done nothing, other than being very careful, to avoid it. When the boat is running I'm usually behind the wheel or close to it, just to keep a lookout. I'll never go up to the bow when I'm alone on the boat, and if I have to go up into the tower, I tie a line around my waist, just in case.

Clammer taught me to piss in the boat 10 years ago. Hell, it runs out through the scuppers!

this is funny and realistic at the same time...I've been in the drink twice in 41+ years boating( not counting canoe mishaps) ... once when a tiller operated 1960 something evinrude started on full throttle throwing me overboard... luckily... an old timer was fishing the same spot and after cussing me out pulled me from the drink... the other time... I was securing a removable door on the roof of a friends tuna boat when a gust of wind put me in the drink.. I remember thinking just before I ( and the door) went airborne "THIS AINT A GOOD IDEA"... it's tough to swim in full oil skins with hooded sweatshirt and wool pants on .. fear is a mighty thing!...I've worn a life jacket when at sea ever since...
I fish alone... ALOT.... I've been running the same center console since 1980... I removed the nuetral safty switch when I rewpowered the rig the first time reasoning that it could fail and not at the right time... the original engine never had a MOB cut out switch...and I never felt the need to have one...
This spring I totally rewired the boat... amongst the things I repaired... nuetral safty switch... it is now hooked up... I added a kill switch that I clip onto my mustang inflatable life jacket ( that i always wear when I am alone or am over deeper water).. it's funny how your perspective changes as you get older and maybe... just maybe... a little wiser...

thefishingfreak I have a box of 25 plastic clip on whistles I got on ebay for 10 bucks, now everyone who comes on board gets a whistle.
|
I had one, a good one and then i took a 10 footer and smashed the windshield and filled the boat!! Thought we were going down, blew that thing at other boats near me, after a few blows and calming down I bailed the boat while my buddy headed for ashore, the whistle when in the water that day and never got another!!
I have a couple of them c02 air horns instead!
