2012 Striper Cup Weigh Ins
Official "kill report" of last years cup. Starting at 13.8 lbs.....Seems OTW has some responsibility to at least try to discourage entering fish that have no shot at winning. How is a 13 lbs fish even legal length?
OTW is just another industry exploiting the fishery.

They could easily come up with a better way to do it. They weigh stations should be able to post up the weight the day the fish was weighed. And the board would be updated immediately rather than a month later. And anyone who weighs a smaller fish than the top leaders could be penalized. Doesn't make sense to have such a huge contest and have the most outdated method of running a leaderboard

I like how in the RI fishing report they mention that they hope people are letting the 50's go, meanwhile they sponsor a kill tournament. They can't have it both ways. Totally hypocritical.

This is the kind of BS that keeps me away from the boards these days. If you're gonna call someone out you'd best be prepared to put the same effort into an apology.

What should I apologize for I never questioned the fish it was weighed in and I was obviously aware of that in the beginning. I thought the pic was screwed with before they posted it and thought it looked bad.

I saw a picture of you and thought the same thing. Then I realized the pic was fine and you're just hideous looking.

Vic, there are lots of us getting it done. Just some of us are not killing every big fish we get. Personally, my partner and I have killed maybe 4 fish out of probably well over 100 legal fish. Those 4 fish were gut hooked. All were eaten.
By the way, I have no problem with guys keeping fish. It's why we do this thing.

. So 11 fish at the end of their life were taken. God forbid we concern ourselves with the thousands of good eating fish taken every weekend. Just because its a fifty guys get their pants in a ruffle.

End of their life only because they were caught. End of their life in the same way a 53 year old guy on this board is at the end of their life. Natural life expectancy for a striped bass is 30 years. 52" and 53" fish are approximately 19 years old. They have almost 40% of their life expectancy remaining. They are rare because ~half the bass in the legal age classes are removed each year. Kill less catch more.

No, no, no. we’re 30… 30, three zero.

There is no evidence of a decrease in fecundity in 20 year old class striped bass relative to smaller fish. They still produce millions more viable eggs than smaller fish. 200 years go, a human woman would rarely outlive fertility. Human women release one egg at a time. A 53" fish released could produce tens of millions of viable eggs over the remainder of its life. The science is clear. There are a lot of reasons put out there for killing bigger fish, but they are pretty much never supported by science.

I'm behind a desk 65 hours a week. I'm happy to see fish pics. It reminds me of what they look like
Agreed. I will never begrudge anyone who keeps their legal limit of fish. Rec or commercial. Hell keep 2 65# fis!! Release the 28-32 inch fish. Do I agree with seeing folks take 28 1/8" Long fish, not personally. But they're within the law.
I'd love to see a table fish and trophy fish type slot limit in ri. But the want just isn't there.. And well the enforcement... Is a joke at best.
I like it when other fishermen do well good on them! Big fish don't happen accidentally or from lack of preparation or we'd all have multiple 50's and 60's under our belts again good to see someone's getting it done

Fags, retarded, ignorant. The list goes on. I have 20 slang words for each of the above. Stop being part of the United States of the Sensitive! I know and associate with Fags and Retarded people. And I have blacks as part as my mostly white family. If you are gonna get pissed off about racial or retard jokes because a family member fits the description you may as well just become a born again Christian. And I have no jokes about born agains at all just true stories!

Guys I get It I am by far the least PC person on the planet. I know when you use that word you are throwing an insult to someone who does not fall in the category. However if you spend time with an individual with special needs regardless of who they are the word starts to work its way as far as possible from your vocabulary. It is what it is. But at some point in time utilizing a word like that as an insult you have to realize that people with special needs might hear that word muttered about them under others breath or to their face etc. the word takes on a whole new level of ignorance.
