Love the June Krill Bite
Been a tough month to try to get out and I finally did yesterday off Westport and later Cutty, love the June Krill bite. Took a young 27 year old neighbor who is a surf caster and currently living and fishing up near Cranes Beach and was down visiting his parents next door for the weekend. He freeked out, he'd never seen acres of bass slurping Krill like trout on a mayfly hatch. And like so many other "plug" guys I've had on my boat under similar conditions, he keep moving from plug to plug, catching a few (how couldn't you); but was reluctant to go light with plastic. I had my usual Krill set-up, light 3/8oz Kalin Ultimate Jig Head and my olive/gold glitter 4" split tail and catching a fish a cast. I finally got him to go plastic and we caught for hours off the ledges near the wreck out front of Gooseberry Point. Most where fat schoolies in the 24" range, but tons of fun on light tackle.
Later we moved to Sow & Pigs Ledge off Cutty and go into a similar scene, but this time with some larger schoolies with a few keepers mixed in and then beat feet early pm after it started to blow pretty good. Man do I love the canvass on a ride back into Westport after it's been blowing southwest for 2 hours at 25+, I'd had been soaked to the bone in years past without it.

For some reason years when we have big krill numbers outside Boston we end up with good pogie/bass fishing later in the season

That looks like fun. Never heard of a krill bite, at least not up in Maine? That dude is having a fun year, I saw him most recently on the Surfland report with a big fish.

Gabe is a neighbor's son, nice young man and a diehard surfcaster for stripers and he and I have had a couple nice chats about our mutual interests and I happened to have room this past weekend and saw he was down visiting and grabbed him for the day. Based on what he tells me and the pics on the other site confirm it; he's been catching some nice fish under the cover of darkness.

Always a great feeling to see such healthy stripers as well as stripers gorging themselves!
