My daughters first striper

For years , fishing the salt, I failed at putting my little girl on some fish other than tons of bluefish. Both my wife and son have caught stripers but she never did. That changed over Memorial day weekend. We were up at lake texoma for 3 days. The shad were spawning, they look similar to peanut bunker and the stripers were slamming top waters - gibbs pencils, all along the shore. Day 1 I went solo and got about 12 fish, all 5- 12 lbs. was back at the cottage by 8am Day 2 I brought my daughter. Conditions were totally different, no signs of bait. A few casts along the shore and bam, she was on. Pic attached. We got a few more but nothing like the day before. She was pretty psyched. The next day, I took my son out, bait was everywhere but no bass. We managed a few dinks. Spent the rest of the day tubing.

Well done.
I'm curious what water temp does that lake have to maintain those fish....doesn't get too warm I guess.

Congrats man! Still hoping to put my son on his first fish this year! Good stuff man!

Nice story Jim. I can't believe how much your daughter has grown.
Are we getting older?

1 @ 32 Pledge. Our beloved Striped Bass are in trouble AGAIN.

I fished through the lean years and don't want to live through another collapse of the stock.

2 fish @ 28" is ridiculous.

Thanks guys. Yeah Bruce, we are getting older, man I feel my 40s. My daughter turn 11 in few weeks, when you met her she was @ 6.
Makai, the lake is deep, 80 ft in some spots, stripers actually spawn here , trophy fish would be anything over 20lbs, but on freshwater gear they r a blast. Lake record is mid 30s. Winter and spring r the best times.

Congrats, that is truly the greatest thing about fishing, that you can share it with your kids and see an excitement in their eyes that you really share with them.
