I have to say that I have probably caught over a thousand bass in the canal on jigs, since using both Breakaway and TA clips, and never lost a single one due to clip failure. I don't know anywhere else you can fish where you have to put as much pressure on a good fish as you do in the Canal. 50# braid, 50# mono leader, and an All Star 1209. If those things were inherently weak, I think I would have had at least one open up on me.

Tie one on upside down, and a jig can slide off it merely by lifting a fish out of the water by the leader. Happened to me once, but the fish landed on the rocks. I caught the slip-up right away. I've never managed to tie one on upside down since.
