why do people hate them so much? I kinda understand.... because they get in the way of the target species when yer bass fishing. but they fight wayy over their weight class and even "tailwalk" when ya get them close to the boat.
I've even gotten them confused with baby bluefins when they show up offshore and start eating really expensive tackle........
but they do save the day sometimes when ya can't find the fish you're looking for.... so whats not to like, right?!?

I hate them when I'm fishing with eels, but they're fun on topwater plugs. My dad makes a great smoked bluefish pate', and I have a couple other recipes that are pretty good. I don't usually target them but like others have said, they can save the day sometimes.

I love catching blues. They are a blast. The only time I curse them is when I am throwing eels. It is a terrible feeling when you are fishing $2.50 eels and you get the rapid chomp chomp chomp.
Bluefish on the grill, in the smoker, ceviche or sashimi is fantastic. Properly bled and cared for, bluefish is one of my favorite fish to eat… Much rather eat a tasty blue than cod/haddock.

I have a smoker and I have a great recipe. I marinate them in a home made citrus marinade and smoke them over apple wood chips.
I'll do it for you if you supply the blues. I haven't caught one yet this year.

I've always felt floobies don't get their proper respect up here. Granted, this is an SB site, but still, people forget that 20 years ago before the stripers came back, they were almost the only game in town. I have fond memories of coming off plane in '90 in my Dad's Grady White
right smack into a big school of them feeding off Block Island.
To me, while they are not as good eating as stripers (obviously, but what is?) they are great battlers who are a hell of a fight for any fisherman. I don't mind catching (or eating) them at all, and count it a good day when I can boat a couple of nice six or seven lbers (especially after a little sleighride in the 'yak). I look forward to catching more.
Caught a bunch today off Ptown. I much prefer catching blues to bass. the fight is tremendous. I use 12lb class spinning tackle with 1/2 jigs and fin s fish. they tear through bags of the fin s, but a great fight. Plus when they bite off the jig its about $1 compared to losing a $20 plug or butterfly jig.
Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.
