Some years life gets in the way. That about sums up my season so far.

The best thing about fishing, however, is that it will wait for you like a friend and welcome you back when you return.

May thru June I was disappointed with both size and numbers, but I've had a great, enjoyable season so far. Lots of fish all on plugs, just nothing over low 20s. Looking forward to Fall fishing and big bait

stange season so far.. slow out of the gate.. white hot now..... inshore ground fishing never happend this spring...offshore has been outstanding..heavy run off this sumer early on seemed to effect what has been a gaurenteed big fish moon in June in recent years.. the fish just never showed..I suspect the mud and debris in the river kepth them offshore and to the north I've seen more small to medium
fish than we've seen in 20 or more years... large have required some hunting... I took a 54lb fish in early July... my 17th over the half century mark... but until two weeks ago.. . most fish were shoolies
teens and twenties... anything larger was difficult to find, with only one 36lber in between... it changed two weeks ago.. large have been a lot more predictable and eaiser to locate in small numbers... I had a pair of "40's" one night and quite a few in the thirties the same week... mixed in with those low to mid "teens".. which have almost become a plague...it's to the point where you move 4 -5 times a night to get away from them to find something larger...last week was the best fishing of the summer and best in about 3 years... Wednesday night... top 5 ever for shear numbers of mixed school fish...not once in 7 hours did I ( or the other boat I called in..)go more than 3 casts with out a fish...we were fishing eels, but those fish were feeding heavy and it would have been the same with plugs... I left them feeding to get a few hours sleep before work.. ....heavy mix of fish from low teens to 40 ( lbs not inches)..no doubt in my mind they are headed south... location of the schools each night backs that up..for us it will be over in a blink of and eye...it's a strange summer that loks like it might go out with a bang...

A good run is better than a bad stand!
