Check out Myrtle Beach SC or Asheville NC. Both have great lodging at a great rates Myrtle has a ton of stuff to do particularly with kids your kids age. Asheville is just a nice town not much on the beach fun but nice hiking stuff etc. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device
Greenville Inn on Moosehead Lake. Rent a cabin. Did that when my kids were about that age. Best, most relaxing vacation that I ever had. Their dining is superior as well. http://www.greenvilleinn.com/

That could be on the way back from Quebec city…hmmmmm…
My ten year old is funny, he says he's only going if he's flying first class. Kid may be spoiled with his travel…
Need to pack some bologny and mustard on white bread.
It's a great area for kids, Spence. Town is easily walkable with all kinds of knick-knack stores. My kids loved the place. Jenn and I would go again in a minute.

Like Jackbass said Ashville is real nice ,and on the way you could hit, Philly, Gettysburg, DC, take the Blue Ridge Parkway to Ashville, then over to Cherokee where your kids could check out their heritage and horseback ride up into the Smokey Mts.
