Sounds like almost like the timber tossers vs. the bait soakers, and who is the real fishermen.
My great grandad used to troll for northern pike on the Conneticut River up in Vermont with a row boat, using a big red and white spoon tied to some green heavy braid/twine crap. The twine was coiled in the boat and he would let out 50 feet or so and hold it in his mouth while he rowed. When a fish hit he spat the line and left the oars in the locks while he hand lined the fish in. This is honest to god true. He was too poor to own proper gear and had inherited the boat from his father. This had to be at least 70-80 years ago. His largest fish caught was a 28lb Pike caught on a trolled handline that he held in his mouth. They ate the fish and mounted the head like a boar. I always wondered what the hell he would do if a big fish like that hit and he was a little too slow on spitting the line out.
Thats 'real' fishing to me
