Ricky Bomba and I are pushing this with John.
Looks like 2/28 maybe the date.

We'd like to get a turnout like we use to. John has spent a lot of money upgrading the site with new servers, bandwidth etc. This is the one event where the money goes to keeping the light on here.

Let's start with who's bringing food. We usually are OK with this facet but we'd like to get this pinned down early.

I'll start with 3 cheese cakes, 3 dozen rolls and a case of water.

If you don't want to post what you will bring, PM me. I'm gonna set up a spreadsheet to keep track of all the food.

No boat, back in the suds.

Kevin, it is usually at the VFW in Fairhaven MA. It is an absolute blast. John does an hour + Powerpoint of pictures from the site from the previous year and lots of other stuff. We have an Angler of the Year award, other awards including gag awards and a huge raffle of plugs, rods, fishing gear in general. All the stuff is donated and it's a hoot. Usually tons of great food, they have a cash bar, if you want to drink. I don't because it's about 150 mile r/t for me.
Can't be any further for you than it is for me.

Thanks. I'll save the date... may have been there for Plugfest a few years ago...??? OK. If you knew me when I did drink you'd know why I won't be drinking there either. :-o

what can we do to encourage a bigger turnout? this used to be pretty big and seems to get smaller yearly - it's still a good time but bigger is better

my 1st wife didn't like me fishing so much

Getting an early date set is likely to be the biggest check to larger turnouts. Late March/April is definitely a downer to big crowds.

Buzz, I think this is the biggest thing. Last year I think we had about 80 guys but it was in April. Too late. I remember drawing over 250 in years past.
This year Ricky and I started talking about this in June and decided to really push now before the Holidays.
I hope some of the people who post here a lot but never help the site, step up this time.
It is a great forum for us and one of the only places on the internet where I fell comfortable posting my opinions.

DATES guys - does it conflict with other DATES

Rick, Paul, & Vic are appropriately leaning on me early to get dates lined up rather than me getting wrapped up and doing it late . I just do not have the free time I did 7-8 years ago.

So I want to make sure this does not conflict with the North shore Guys, or the CT guys, or the Cape Guys, or the South shore guys.

If this is a good date we can get things in early and have the 100 or so guys that is a good crowd.

Paul - I do not think we have ever had 150 let alone 250

Sat. Feb 28 is ok by me. Will bring my usual ham steaks and
pineapple. Seems we usually had about 100 in attendance but
more wives, sweethearts and kids recently. I am taking a motel
room again this year and need a room mate. Let me know????

I say go for the 28th. Vic, can you just check to see if the hall is open?

If we set it early, we'll get the turnout.

Thanks
Rick

I made initial call to the VFW.
The scheduling book is not yet available out front at the bar.

Left a detailed message for the hall coordinator.

I'll follow up tomorrow when the coordinator is expected to make a short visit at 11:00am

I'm gonna make it this year - for the first time ever! My sister in law lives in Fairhaven so I can have the wife and kids spend time with her and have a place to crash!

Thanks Vic,
You rock! I have a feeling the taxidermist gonna have a fit when he sees what I brung him this year!

Yeehah! (This was really Paul's idea, I think, but I agreed to remind him, so I played some small part in the victory)!
