End stages. When they can hardly walk because the disease is paralyzing them. One died before the officer arrived---they tested it later and it was positive for rabies. It managed to crawl over to the edge of the woods before it croaked.
The ACOs have all been vaccinated. The one who responded asked if we or our dogs had gone near it. I was polite enough to just say no, without adding, "do I look like I'm that effing stupid?"
