Budget:
Gosa 20k, 100# braid jb hollow(thinner than their 80#) or solid braid your choice, 100# flouro on up windon from bhp tackle, or 100# flouro and constriction knot your choice with solid braid (page ranking, slim beauty etc.) the option for a bimini loop is there as well and then you can use a windon. (triple surgeons if you're on a deck that is pitching/rolling) You're going twice a year buy the BHP tackle windon, its their job to make windons. (100# and 130# for the fish you double think your cast on theyre so big)
Rod: tackle direct had 500gram van staal jiggin sticks sale price was $158 shipped, regular 2 and change now I believe.
*with the exception of the gosa (I used a vs300) I have used all items listed above hands on and on fish.
Better:
Newest stella 20K/w or 2008 Stella 20K 100 jb hollow, spliced loop, cats paw -> flouro Wind on 100# flouro on up.
The debate is out on whether newer is better for casting because the angle of the foot to rod and its tip, as it is flatter in the newer stella versus the 2008.
Rod: Racepoint 250, race point 200 (smith tackle limited makes these blanks for saltywater tackle) *I have used these on fish hands on.
There are other options and the prices just increase from there names to review: Carpenter, mc works, smith tackle limited, black hole etc.
Lures: ronz and a couple stickbaits.
The tackle for these fish has come a LONG way and there are a ton of options. Read, take notes, hell, take a charter: ask them what are you using and why they use it.
