Good story. It is amazing what you see and learn being on the shore every day. Nature is tremendous if you look and listen and learn.
I did this over 100 times this season as well. Enjoyed every minute and day. My usual goal when I am not travelling is to fish before dawn and through it and be done by 7 (especially in the summer). Only issue was that by getting up at 3:30 or 4 many days (false dawn at 4:30 in June and July) my goal of not disturbing my wife Tina became problematic. Not because I woke her, which I never did, but because some afternoons I would like (need) a nap or because I often fell asleep by 10 PM. Thus "my time" did encroach into "our time".
Based on the number of folks I saw along the canal this summer, this guy and I are not alone in doing this.
