Mako, I get it, I saw that in another thread. Sounds good as long as the chain laying across the shaft does interfere with it passing through. There are lots of release type anchors on the market too.
Anyway, its not the lost anchor that's got me, its the damage/repair (hopefully) to my windlass. That sucker costs over 6 bills, and I really don't want to replace it.

Mike, Yes I have the stainless steel grappling anchors I make at work (Uhhhh,,,,in my spare time), but they are not a primary anchor. They wont hold in soft bottom,. If you remember I use it to hold the boat near rockpiles as a second anchor out the back. It does bend so it will come out of the rocks, and bends back easy. Works good to recover niner rigs stuck on the bottom too..

This weekend I will take the windlass off and open up to see the damage.
