IF you do not have a light touch with that razor blade, you WILL scratch the gel. And yes most likely there IS going to be a color difference where the letters were, unless they were only there for a short time, especially a dark color. You may be able to compound buff and glaze the area after the letters are removed and take some of the curse away.
I have used the 3M erasers back in my Auto body days, works but will be somewhat tedious on such large area, you may need more than 1.
Perhaps one of our active Auto body repair pros will chime in, raiderron or fishfreak, with some advice.
