For Georges I'd say that the outfit you originally proposed is a little too light. You need a rod that can handle at least 16 ounces of jig or lead, and crank fish off the bottom in 200 feet of water. Your outfit might do it fishing in 100-120 feet of water off the Block, but it a little light for Georges.

My neighbor, an experienced offshore fisherman, went by private boat off Chatham two days ago.
He found it loaded with cod, big pollock, mackerel, a GW shark, and even a @#300 tuna that ate a cod jig and was lost boat side (no suitable gaff or harpoon aboard) after a 1.5 hour fight. The most life (birds, whales, fish) he has seen "offshore" all year. In December. Go figure.
