What GS forgot to add was how a race boat with crews numbering anywhere from 8 to 30 tend to get, shall we say, RIPE down below? Especially in the southern waters, after a couple of days, throw in some salt water, a couple sick crew, maybe some diesel in the bilge now all over the deck sole!!!! Yup, and our Bubba was on the head as we fell off a wave, snapped it off clean. This BN is retired.

DONT THINK ABOUT IT !!! the worse thing you can do is constantly think about being sick and swell action .
its the UpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnDdOwN that you DONT want to think about it . Ive been out in the chit alot in Dec and Jan storms cod fishing and have weathered well . SO far !
My buddy had a problem constantly breaking them off on those that got sick , claiming " I never get sick Im a fishermen " . well his day came in not so violent seas and he blew chuncks all over . I still bust his chops some 20 years later .
Never break balls on those that do and never say never cause some day it will happen and thats the 4th guarentee . right in between eat , chit, and die !
just watch out for the UpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnDdOwNUpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnD dOwNUpAnDdOwNuPaNdDoWnUpAnDdOwN
by the way all this talk of Dave how did Notaro fair with the fish ?

I think fatigue plays a factor in getting seasick too. The more tired you are, the more susceptible you will be to getting seasick. This is just based on my own experience.
Dave didn't get much sleep the night before - having gotten up at 4 a.m. to make the trip up to Quincy. In retrospect I wasn't surprised he got sick - just wish we had prepared for this contingency beforehand. Oh well, next trip...

Wendy's double cheese burgers and ocean swells just don't mix. Especially when the boat is just sitting still rolling with the swells...
The best cure for sea sickess is a little puff of... um... uh.. well, you know! And thats coming from someone who hates the stuff.

Well, Joseph, to be fair, once Dave started feeling sick there wasn't anything you could have done to reverse the inevitable. That's why it's important to be prepared before the boat leaves the dock...

I agree with you. My dad once gave me a dramine on the boat when I got a seasickness. It didn't work. The only thing worked for me is to sleep it off for a full day.

Only got sick once. I was about 13 and jigging blues on the 125ft Jamaica party boat. It was about 8-10 footers out there that day. We were bailing monster blues though so I puked while reeling and kept fishing. The fishing made me feel much better.

likwid, probably jinxing myself but, never have yet in clode to 30 years on the water.  I know a couple of other people that never have either. Came close a couple times  so I don't ridicule anyone that has. The couple times I came close, I felt like #^&#^&#^&#^&e and wouldn't wish it on anyone. BTW, those couple of times came when I was inside a cabin. Once I'm back on deck and getting fresh air, I can usually come back to life. |

Been on boats in almost all kinds of weather, never got seasick...don't worry, I'll have fun when the time comes. Busted a couple of hearing aids on a few fishing trips, but they're just hearing aids.  I live for bounces |

We've had a couple guys get on race boats mouthing off about how they never get sick in a big sea....
Then they get in a big sea.
Had a real loud mouth that wasn't invited back on my watch on one boat... I'm sittin there eating my little snack size snickers bars and you could just see him turning green at the thought of eating something. |
