				Mackeral Fly

Such a nice day took a little time out to cast a fly from shore. Played with the mackeral. Caught a dozen in very short time. Used a small streamer about 3" long that in one way or another resembled a bunker.

hook: mustad #34007 size 1
Thread: What ever works for you
Wing: silver flashabou; white bucktail with sparse
amount of black bucktail on top.
                     white bucktail underwing
Basiclly this fly is tyed like a deceiver.
Used a sinking line. An intermediate line may work also or you may have to use small dumbbell for weight.

		 John,

Are you willing to list the ingredients? Where did you get those long saddle hackels? How long is that fly - I'm guessing 6"+?

TL,

Dave ,Sure.. It is tied as a Feather brain fly... I tied it with two spreaders...not one... the feathers are white Rooster Cape and grizzly hackles..it looks long because of the way it is constructed..Here is a picture of the first feather applications which are at the hook bend... then another spreader at the hook eye and you repeat the applications. Dave, I don't have the original anymore...but I remember it being 6 to 7 inches at least

Spreaders are just a term. Rich Murphy uses them quite a bit.. It's Mylar or corsair tubing... the stuff that is sold in coils. You make the "spreader" from them by securing the tubing on to the hook and then pushing it back onto itself creates a tumpet like form.

Can you post a close up pick of the spreader?. My fly shop had no
clue about this technique.

Push it back over itself toward the hook bend and then tie it down over the first tie... and cut excess.
