On that topic - many years ago there was a NY surfcaster that started a company that made rigged eels and trailers made out of shark skin which we all know is tough as anything. He sold them in bottles of brine and they were called Gizmo's. Very effective but the idea didn't take off. I'm sure some of you have access to shark skins at seafood dealers.
Who knows, maybe dogfish skins would work.
