bad accident with the tips of both middle fingers hitting my 5 hp 18" powermatic surface thickness planer. i stopped planing for a few minutes shutting down dust collector and planer then went back and only turned on the dust collector and cleared the chips out , i have a door flapper where it meets the top of planer. i had headphones on and must have forgot i turned the planer back on, went to swish away some more chips and it happened in an instance, lost both middle fingernails and broke both fingers. lucky it was not worse. the right hand is worse as it is a compound fracture and needs more surgery i imagine. going back to B I on monday to assess. the emergency room in boston called in a hand doc and he stitched what he could, we left there yesterday morning, home now

melissa is taking good care of me. i dont need pain killers, just keeping them elevated.

Ugh so sorry Slip and hope you heal fast without too much or any surgery. I felt your "mad at myself" pain back in March when I busted my arm up. You said "lucky it wasn;t worse" so you already know to be thankful, don't beat yourself up over the accident, it does you no good. think of all the people you know who have done the same action with far worse outcome (I'm sure there's some!) and count your blessings! Our thoughts and prayers are with you for speedy recovery!

Simplify.......

Thank you all so much for your comments
Your words, thoughts and prayers mean a lot to me. I am blessed.
I got great news today that I don’t need further surgery for now. They are healing well. Going to have to be very careful for quite a while not to bump or bang them but it could have been so much worse. Yes Jenn, many others with missing digits. I hope your arm is good now. I’ll never do that again that is for sure.

You should have had me cut all that stock up for you. If there is ever a next time you’ll have the experience to know what NOT to do now to keep full control. Or call me

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

Yes I should have had you do it.. time was ticking and I just had to get it all done ASAP.

Looking back I should have gone to the ER. I’m certain I had a little internal bleeding.

OMG,
This sucks, Bruce. If your fingers did become more even, then maybe we can use the insidious device to even out Chris’ haircut. Get better soon!

Yikes !!
Heal up quickly then ask big D about his fingers versus a wood splitter 😱.
Lost the tip of my middle finger in a slamming steel door, made it easier to strum a guitar though.

Thanks, still not 100% but getting there. Even when were careful accidents happen, were only human! Lessons learned are be patient and as careful as you can be... Honest to god I tripped twice within days of having the cast off and you know I landed on that arm both times Murphy's law .....'nuff said!

Same sick feeling I got when I heard about the wood chipper accident on the Cape a week ago....
You should run a chainsaw everyday. You either pay strict attention to what you are doing ALL THE TIME or you die. Real simple.

No boat, back in the suds.
