				VPN question

Channel 4 doing a series on cyber security. arguing the need for a VPN... So who should use one? Everyone who has a computer? Everyone who has a cell phone? What about the schmo like me whose laptop never leaves the den, and uses the phone as a phone or camera 95% of the time? We have Xfinity in the house... Do not use online banking, some Amazon and the like, with AMEX.. Don't know enough, or much at all, about this stuff.
 Look forward to the responses.

				 | At home unless you’re doing something illegal it’s likely overkill. Your banking apps likely have decent security and double authentication if anything looks suspect.

				 | I have used them lightly in the past, looking into security issues.
I do not have a real need as I do not do anything that I am concerned where I'm seen. The Dark Web can be a scary place.

You can cheat a little and use a TOR plugin in your browser.

However, if you are still running a Windows XP machine, a VPN might be safer.

If you have a well patched Win10 machine or a latest rev MAC OS you should be fine for mundane tasks

 | Exactly. VPT for your home is overkill. Password your router, your laptop and multi-factor all your financial apps. |
