Here’s some fishing advice... there’s pnuts around and the Aug new moon is approaching. The fish will be staging to make a push. Might be the best time of year to go large in any part of New England considering recent trends. Commit to eels at night and throw white pencils at dawn from the rocks. Don’t pay attention to water temps...

Jeez Bart, that was not a lecture. It seemed like friendly advice. It’s too bad kids can’t resist the social media and the drama it adds to fishing. Do what makes you happy and f the naysayers.

I don’t need my fishing acumen questioned. He stated what a “true fisherman” does while quoting me. I haven’t posted a fishing pic online since April when I was into fish out front (that pic was posted on here) and I’m obviously not an “old fart, but I will admit I can be an “ahole.” But you won’t find one recent pic on my social media accounts... I went back on recently and lasted all of two days.

He asked why people aren’t posting and I stated my reasons. I don’t know what people see in the political forums because I’ve never had a reason to venture in there.

Thanks, Chris. She’s something else and has certainly filled a void that fishing has left behind

Cool Beans... I apologize. I’m just having hard time grappling with questioning one of my true passions in life... whether it’s worth it anymore. Also been a struggle with recently moving back to the interior as I like to call it after living a mile from the beach. I appreciate the discussion you started as this site is the reason I met so many good friends and my two fishing mentors who i consider some of the best in the game.

I think ur missing my point. Rather than being positive or just saying nothing god forbid. U went the opposite direction and just had to be a bit negative. Next time you find yourself typing or speaking negatively just do us all a favor and delete it or stfu. Leo is a fine young man and this is no reflection on him or his fishing skill.

Hey my friend, I live in the "interior" called Burrillville. When I was fishing 100 nights a year it was Narragansett, Watch Hill, Tiverton or the Cape. Everyone of those were 125+ mile R/T.

Back in the 80s, pre-moratorium, during the moratorium and after the moratorium. I got skunked for 2 Friggin" years coming out for the moratorium.
You mentions "too much effort for not much reward" If you are a Striper fisherman, that was what you did. Now, everyone goes to the Canal with their smartphones and waits for a post with a pole number so they can kill a 40 and, after they take a million selfies, they throw that noble fish in a god damn dumpster.

No boat, back in the suds.

Not missing the point at all Paul.
We got every boat in the state up in the harbor now because every internet hero post a picture on fb or forums as soon as the Fish is unhooked !
I’ve been chartering longer than you & I know there’s a certain amount of self promoting we have to do to sell Charters.
Most of my reports are weeks old.
Your post could have used a lot less details

I definitely wasn't directing anything towards any one individual, but more complaining how slow this site has become. I honestly think the political forum ruins things a bit. Political opinions and all out arguments in that forum, I feel sours some people from fishing with other people. My only point to this thread was I REALLY miss the old site where it mostly fishing talk. Especially in the current environment, politics should be far from fishing. I get mad at myself every time I read that forum as it has become nothing but the same 2 sides telling each other they are full of crap or racists. Ya I know "then, don't click on that forum Dummy" but when its the only thing to read, I cant help but read it. It's like when you were in the bathroom (Pre smart phone) and would read anything near the toilet, including the back of the shampoo bottle or toothpaste. Ok my rant is done... for a while this site was like Field and Stream was for me as a kid... it left me feeling entertained and educated about fishing and family. I miss that.... and to me.... that is sad.

Must be talking about Lawrence Wentworth.
This site was so much better with him, just ask the workers at the local Dunkin Doughnuts near his house 😜

I think a good debate over best methods to catch during the summer, the best show to hit in the off season is fun stuff or the pros and cons of making our beloved striper a game fish. The heat goes up with each subject as it’s now touching on someone’s potential seasonal revenue source, but thoughtful exchanges are educational, maybe enlightening and maybe proves some impetus for change. I don’t know why the activity on the main boards has lessened, but I suspect if it parallels my lessened interest in putting in the time to fish; it’s the natural progression of a board with aging members.

I personally don’t see the political board as a negative, although at times it certainly can get that way, but being involved and passionate about the direction our government and the world as a whole can’t be a bad thing.

You want more meat on the main boards than bring it. If you want advice ask for it, there is a wealth of experience on this site. Want to meet some of the members you haven’t or possibly get out and fish with them, I have found everyone to be more than willing to get you out.

As my good buddy Clammer says, be thankful for what you have and spark one up and chillax

Ya, and 90% of the folks on here now wouldn't know who the hell he is. He hasn't fished in 10 years.

On another note, I think Cool Beans did us a great service by starting this thread. Got a lot of people talking. Hell, Dangles, Guppy and I are like the only regulars now.

Straight and long, don’t use those words while Clammer is on the board, not unless we are talking about starting a golf board.

I remember..... Was when I was just cutting my teeth fishing...

Days of Manzi…. and Habs….. Of keeping eels in Fishing Club bath tub. Great insights from Steve VS. And Nolan stories. Some of the great times on this board IMHO..

Does anyone remember Patrick? He must be all grown up now. Or not...
