HELP!
My best friend is getting neutered, I mean married. In Jamiaca. He wants to fish off the beach one night for whatever. Any help would go far towards getting him a divorce. We are gonna do the drunk off the beach thing.

Nope...I been to Jamaica though twice! Great place as long as you do not leave the resort! Just too many damn people trying to either sell me their sister or some weed! Didn't buy either!

Negril, And I'm wondering if we'll get our balls busted trying to get a fishing pole there. I'd like to bring a 2 piece fenwick for off the beach. Sure is tough being a surfcaster, the two of us can only think about that damn beach!

First guy, "Jamaica?"
Second guy, "Naw, I tried, but she slapped my hand."
The only Jamaica I know is a stop on the LIRR. As far as marriage advice, I agree with Yoda, "Do or do not. There's no try." But Macojoe I like your thinking!

Argh,
I was down in Negril last Thanksgiving.
I'm sorry to say that the shore fishing sucks, as the surf is fairly shallow and there isn't much structure.
There are some small little chits around but that's it from the beach.
There are a lot of fish in the nearby reefs (right off of Hedonism III) that dot some of the smaller islands. Mostly smaller stuff - like ballyhoo. The bigger wrasses get shot at by the local spearfishermen who strip the reefs bare of all the fish and even the spiny lobsters.
If you plan to go offshore on a boat (which is an option...there are marlin charters) bring a medium heavy conventional and troll some 3 oz kastmasters (fluoro!!!!), you'll at least hook up with some small false albacore or barracuda like we did last year.
If ha have a snorkel outfit, bring one if you don't want to rent one.
We're ya staying? Sandals or Beaches or Hedonism?

i agrea with fww. the inshore reefs are stripped, the locals mainly use fish pots or z-traps to target the " inshore species" the offshore fishing is ok with wahoo dolphin tuna and some billfish. you probably won't have to use your own set up if you go offshore unless you want to. if i was going to set up on the beach to try to surf fish i would try to find some fairly deep water and throow out a strip bait. Take the side off a ballyhoo and fling it out there one on top and one on the bottom and hope for the best. some bread soaked in sardine oil might work as well but it is a trick keeping it on the hook ( small treble sometimes works) just my .02
good luck and becare of the space cakes

leave the rod and clothes at home . Negril is a wonderful place for the married couple to enjoy their union . GO OFF SHORE ! its been 12 years but a spleaf and a rum and a naked lady will make you a happy guy . 12 years since I was in jamaica and if I remeber right she was good . one more thing if you do travel around alone be very careful and STAY OUT of Kingston and brownstown . most people are nice and friendly .

If yer paying more than $20 for a bag... never mind.
Seriously, Negril is unsurpassed in its natural beauty and the people there are wonderful.
Jamaicans are some of the nicest and most industrious people on the planet. Not uncommon to see a few of them...with THREE jobs.
Bring some Pepto Bismol. Water Q is good down there, there's just different organisms you gotta get used to.

Never been to Jamaca, but on the surf side of the Bahamas (and the flats too) at night we were getting in to some nice sized (3-6ft) Nurse, Lemons, Blacktip sharks, as well as monster rays... using whatever we had for bait, 'hoo's, dead and live grunts, etc...
Also grey snapper on smaller hooks and chunks of 'hoo
On multiple occasions, after watching guys hunt Bones like they were made of solid gold.. tip toeing all over the flats we got a bunch of Bonefish (4-6lbs) on a 8/0 hook, wire leader and chunk of 'hoo... after dark....happened many nights, so it wasnt a fluke...

Get drunk and try to tag a brides maid. It's a different kind of fishing, but catch and release is a must.
