I always heard that when working on a fuel tank one should put i think it was Nitrogen gas in it to replace gas fumes. Not sure

You have to be very careful using nitrogen gas.It is heavier than air.Using it down in the hold or hull it can displace the air and you'll suffocate quickly.Delt with it in manholes back in the working days.
