Nostalgia

I loaded a reel with my final spool of original 50lb Whiplash. Been holding onto it but it is time.

No, no, no. we’re 30… 30, three zero.

Wow, haven't seen a fresh spool of Whiplash in a loooooong time! I loved/hated that stuff and wasted a lot of it as I learned what it did and didn't like to do on a reel.

on the topic of line, I'm a creature of habit... Like many of us, once I find something I like, I stick to it and do not change unless I really find something better. There's nothing worse than a product being discontinued and you are left without... Since fireline original 30# has changed their line to a softer smoother line (to be like everyone else) I am now on the search for a line which resembles it... waxy, stiffer line... I am NOT a fan of silky smooth, knot-prone, 8-carrier lines. So if anyone is familiar with the old original fireline 30# braid, and can recommend something that feels and performs in a similar manner,. I am all ears, because I am wasting money trying new stuff that I just dont like.

I don't think of it as waxy but maybe masterbraid? I have a large spool of it that I bought when I threw baitcasters at the canal and liked it for that. I suspect it has many 100's of yards on it and you are welcome to it to try it if I can get it to you. However, it may be 65lbs or something. I would have to look. Been stored in a basement drawer so likely still good.
