Books in the Bathroom

Professor Flaptail here, just wanted you all to know that I have started my annual "Books in the Bathroom" reading initiative to enable any red blooded American male with a serious interest in all things Striped Bass to join me in this initiative so that we may all become better versed in the sport we love so well.

Think about it, the time wasted on the john is really for the most part wasted time so why not exercise your mind as well as your bowels? It's simple really. all you have to do is grab a book or two on striper fishing and stash them in the towel closet and when nature calls as you are closing the door you train yourself to reach for that book. What better place to read is there but in the solitude and security of your closed bathroom door? You will increase your literacy rate, learn something and all while performing these two tasks at once. You will feel better for in a number of ways, I guarantee it!

I started my personal program last week with the latest, 2nd edition of the Creek Chub collectors guide and am backing it up with a grab from the library of O.H.P. Rodman's "The Saltwater Fisherman's Favourite Four" I especially like the part about Flaptail plugs being used at Cuttyhunk casting into the rocks.

So whada ya say? Join me in this initiative and let me know what volumes you read over the winter and how did it help your fishing. Now get reading!

I'm with FWW and TDF, the hopper's definitely the spot for periodical literature. Other folk in my abode would concur as I often find them open to different articles than the ones I had been reading previously.

Books on the throne are a no go for me. I'll get real into it, and next thing I know my legs are numb. Periodcals and the brevity of their articles is a much better fit for me.

I just finished reading O.H.P. Rodman's "The Saltwater Fisherman's Favourite Four".
It was fun reading from the 1948 perspective. Acouple nice pics and illustrations.

its the only place to read ! quiet and have the time to read . OTW , the fisherman , the morning paper , and any book on fishing that I might be involved in . I have a book rack right next to dear old john full of good reading material . books on air warfare are always a good read in the crapper . bombs away !!!!!! if your aim is good you could take out half the world with one dump .

Don C., I had the numbness problem too but a trip to Home Depot and the purchase of a more fuller, contoured seat brought the pleasure back into my reading time. John R., always remember to "finish the paperwork" and wash those hands before picking the book back up. Also what I would like to know is what books kept you guys "on the edge of the seat" so to speak, you know your favorite titles. Well, carry on!

Chris L., They sell targets (bullseyes) that stick onto the inside of the bowl, they are made for teachin boy children to not stray outside the target. If you are an air warfare fan you could get one of these and it would be like being in the Mighty Eigth back in WW11. You could be on the bomb run with the doors open and when you get to the aiming point let 'em go and blam! Take that Adolph!!! Just watch out for that deadly flak coming up back at you though! Of course with the bomb load gone you will be lighter and be able to gain better altitude!

when Im being shot at with flak I just rise up a little in the air and the flak falls harmlessly away from me as do any remaining bombs . I dont need a target I spent 3 years firing a 105mm by eyesight . lol

CS use the sunday comics at least when someone wants to read something funny . there it is ! hey maybe your customers havent read the funny page yet .

jenn you dont want to use 20 grit its too rough more like 400 grit for a nice smooth cleaning.

I never get to the edge . that would make my target aquisition pretty bad .

I read a good LRRP ( long range recon patrol ) book in the La drang valley around LZ albany that got me as close to the edge as I care too .

for a quickie stop..... and i prefer mental notes. Fishing books require a long time to ponder,to enjoy, to absorb. To those that only have a bathroom as a place of solitude I say "REVOLT" and stand your ground! are you mice or are you MEN " SILENCE" you must scream at the top of your lungs, " i demand quiet".... then sneak away to your secret man-cave hideaway and read blissfully.
and pray...... that will last even 15 minutes.

Dictionary's a good reference and you learn all sorts of important facts like "fart" really is in the dictionary. But the best short read has gotta be Reader's Digest. You can increase your word power, read a humorous anicdote, or peruse some health tips, like don't read while you in the can or you'll get rhoids!
