whats up everyone? just getting ready for the upcoming season and man i cant wait! i hear alot about how fishing line color makes a diference.how true is this?i fish most of the time in the boston harbor.i've used clear most of the time before switching to big game # 30 (dark green color).what color line would you recomend?and what brand?i hear my buddy talking alot about momoi.is this good line? also what are good hooks to use(chunk bait)i've been using tru turn 7/o hooks.thanks for any info

I don't think line color makes a huge difference. Most mono, when put in water, becomes pretty clear anyway. But I have usually stuck with clear or moss green color. The point is to make the line as invisible as possible. This is what makes flourocarbon lines popular, though their merits and advantages over mono are debatable. I think Trilene Big Game 20# is the most popular line.

For bait hooks I like the premium Mustad baitholder hooks for clams and worms, premium Mustad short shank beak hooks for live bait, and Gamakatsu octopus or circle hooks for chunks. You will find that the Gami's are very popular in the striper crowd.

For hooks on lures I like VMC Siwash and Mustad saltwater trebles.

I use fluorocarbon leaders on all my rigs including flyfishing. It allows you to use a heavy leader and it is invisible to the fish. I use Seaguar brand and like it alot.

When I think of Momoi I think offshore, don't really know why. But it seems that that is the market that the company targets???

Big Game green is good, so is yozuri, sufix. Lots of anglers are using braided line now--fireline, power pro, stealth.................
As for color, green is a favorite, maybe because the water color is greenish. Clear line too. Last year I fished some super bright lines. I used clear mono leaders. Caught plenty of fish. So if you like the bright lines I'd say go ahead and use them.

how long do you guys make your leaders? and does it really make a diference?i use about a foot and a half.my buddy is using 3 feet.seems alot but would like to know what u guys r using.

Depends... For Eels....
About 3-4 feet for boat and shore if I'm not using a teaser, 4-5ft from shore with a teaser.....

Rarely floro, I used 50lb Ande Clear Mono for leaders, 8/0Gami Octo's... Snelled, 100lb Rosco swivel.. never had any of these fail.... Not to say I havent lost my share of fish, but usually the hook pulls or bluefish bite it, but the rig itself is good

i like three feet of leader, and i like a long drop for the cast. gets more action from the rod. i like the drop to hang right around where the reel is, of course if i have rocks or an incline behind me that drop might change some.

what do you think of floro?i myself have never used it.i've been hearing alot about it.was thinking of trying it out.i just bought some gami cirle octo's,will try these out.i've been using tru turn for the past 3 years.

I distrust circles, but thats me, as far as floro, my opinion is use it if you like, but my 50lb ande works fine for me...

FOD, like RIR, I use 3 foot leaders from the surf. This length provides some protection to the line if the fish is running through rocks or other structure. The 1 to 1 1/2 foot may not be enough.

RIJ, I use 4-5 in the surf, unless I'm wading deep.. then its 3ft...3ft from boat...

One more thing. If you are gonna use flourocarbon for a leader, remember to buy the leader and not the main line. There is a difference. The leader material is stiffer and is supposed to lay straighter in the water. You may need to stretch the coils out if it at first, though. The line material has less abrasion resistance but has less memory.
