Patrick;

If you were fishing, or anything for that matter, and saw someone do something stupid or funny, wouldn't you tell your friends about it and get a 'laugh'? Thats whats happenening here.... you say things that guys read and can't help but laugh....and they share it with other people. Whether its right or wrong is just an opinion. The fact is that most of the stuff you post is funny as hell, sometimes it borders on stupidity. Don't take this as a reason to start a flame war with me, as I'm just trying to point something out to you. I remember what its like to be 19 and KNOW everything. My advice to you is to sit back, read the posts from the veterans, and try to apply it to yourself. I've been fishing for 25 years now and I can tell you I learn stuff everyday just from watching, and then I apply it to myself and sometimes it works.

There is NO WAY you can tell if a given day is going to be productive. It just doesn't happen that way, your dealing with fish. That would be like me saying......"HMMMM, I'm not gonna throw the needlefish today, cause I just 'FEEL' like they are eating steak for dinner tonight." It just doesn't happen! I don't care who you are, theres no way to tell. One day they might hit good when its raining, the next day, in the SAME conditions, they won't. Its a matter of being there, if your NOT there, your NOT gonna catch them! Thats it, its all quite basic.

So my advice to you is......just watch. If you don't have anything worthy to add, don't add it. It will just open you up to comments and people will not like you for it. Learn things from others and go fish! And have a good time when you do go, thats what it is all about.

Don't take this as a bashing post, just read it, see if you agree with anything, and maybe start doing something about it. Good Luck!

P.S. Just wanted you to know that TimS removed the link and put the cuffs on them and told them to stop.

OK - I'm going to be very short and not so sweet.

Patrick - this place does not resolve around YOU and what is FAIR or RIGHT to YOU. Is it right for YOU to post regurgitated material to others who are not so keen to your ways? Is it fair if someone takes a tip of yours and gets skunked or worse - injured? So don't start down THAT PATH. You've used this site in the past to complain of your treatment from other sites and even lobbied for reinstatement and you always play the injured party and that, frankly is BS. Is it RIGHT for me to need to see this crap online?

Mindi - he reaps what he sows. I know you have a lot of respect for the kid and I sincerly hope that he treats you well - he certainly seems to, but don't blindly jump to his defense every time there seems to be an inkling of criticism. If someone continued to lie and boast and talk talk talk, you either ignore it or argue back. Some have chosen to ignore and some argue back. And yep, there is humor in a lot of what he says. It's funny sometimes reading pure BS and sometimes just tiresome. I'm not going to get in a debate over fishing or his or your comments about fishing because I really lack the desire to do so now as I'm a little pissed. See, unlike your hero, I cannot devote time to this thread because I have RESPONSIBILITIES & a JOB that takes precedence over this petty CRAP.

I hope that everyone - especially Patrick - will stop here with this. OK?

Patrick...the problem is I don't think that you have ever fished one hard NIGHT. When you have people here that do hundreds of nights a year, they will laugh at you and call your bluff. Simple as that. Understand that and you will understand their perspective. Fishing a few afternoons a month ain't gonna do it.

Why do you think that me and DaveS were sitting around in the breachway while you were casting. Cause the sun was still up!!! Once it went down and it got dark enough, we fished!!!

When you were in Rhody, and you didn't have to drive back to CT, why did you need to sleep. You can sleep when the sun starts to rise or when you got back on Sunday afternoon, it's not like you had a job that you had to be well rested for. You have to earn the respect of the people here...words aren't going to do it. Stop worrying about tackle, reels and building rods. Go fish at night every damn night for the next two months from 10:00pm (cause that's when it will finally be dark enough) till false dawn with what you have, maybe then you will be taken seriously.

OK, this has gotten way outa hand and that was'nt my intent Patrick, I am sorry, but when you post responses like the one that set this off, you leave yourself wide open to criticism. It was the way you said that stuff, making it seem like you had this keen "Striper sense" and vast amount of bass catching knowledge, that started me up and led to my posting on SOL. If you would just read, listen, and learn what some very experienced anglers have to say in their posts you never would have had these problems, but instead you try to change the rules of bass fishing that were written long ago, and that aint gonna help ya. Yeah, me,Charlie, and a few others were sitting on a rock watching you cast that plug in the breechway that afternoon, matter of fact, I even offered up a tip or two about fishing a plug in heavy current like in a river or inlet, but even after I gave some advice, you continued to retrieve that plug as fast as you could, dismissing my advice like I never even gave it to ya. The key to getting good is to watch and listen to guys that know, pay attention, zip the lip, and learn. Once again, I'm sorry for causing you embarrasment, I hope you can accept my apology, and if ya ever need some advice about them striped fellers give me a shout.
PS, this is what ya can catch reeling slowly in current.....

Patrick its the topics you post about that opens yourself up to this "abuse" Look at the replies and its all in fun, no one is here to hang you. We like to have a little fun on your expense but don't take it seriously. BTW I had the tuna pic and I brought it just for you. I fished hard in Rhody got knocked down by a wave soaked, changed clothes, went to C-Breachway had two waves break over my head then when back and fished while you were going back to the motel, yes I'm dedicated and nuts! Has any other site brought you fishing and has been this generous to you? Hang in there buddy and get you and Mindi to the Ditch and I'll show you how to use that 7000 Abu!

Post Apologies..

but there's just a few things I want to say...my apologies to Patrick for sticking my nose in and to John for adding more crap..

First of all, the reason Patrick posts some ideas that are a little off-the-wall, or tries to help out when someone has a question (even if his responses aren't always 'expert') , isn't because he is trying to be a 'know-it-all', it's because considers you guys his friends and he TRUSTS you enough to take a risk and throw out some of his ideas. Most of the time when he tries to answer a question or give advice,he's really trying to be helpful. If you think his advice is crap, DON'T TAKE IT!
Secondly, Patrick DOES fish. Unlike most of you he doesn't have tons of options as to where he can go. When he talks about 'instinct', if you had read the whole post, you'll see that what he's really referring to is checking out the environment. Something that I saw most of you doing in RI, as well. Usually, if the conditions are poor, you hop in the car and go somewhere else. Patrick doesn't have that option. When I was out there for a week we fished every single day,and the fish just weren't there. It's easy to get frustrated when your only spot is giving you nothing for a while.
Patrick reads books. So what? He didn't have tons of veterans like most of you to hold his hand. He taught himself, through reading and practice. I think he's done a pretty good job at it too.
I think it's shameful and sad to abuse his respect and trust of you to make him look foolish. I know it's not my place to say it and I apologize for that, but I have a real hard time seeing someone I love being made a laughing stock and a punching bag.

As far as him 'deserving it' for his past behavior, how long is long enough? Does he get a 'life sentence' for being a teenager and saying some stupid stuff?

That's all. I mean it this time.

UMMMM....EXCUSE ME HERE...MAY I INTERUPT THIS FOR A SEC. ??

...This topic was my first on here, how it ended up like this confuses the heck out of me..

..So I'm taking this as...No. 1 reason to not fish= computer wars

....Pat, your 19 ? ... so what!

..If your experiences have taught you that your "instinct" is dead on, then stick with it, when it starts to fail you, or you read/hear that others are catching way more fishees than you...try some different approaches...
...I found some of the comments made to you...quite HARD myself...( not that having a little fun with someones remarks is bad, but in all fairness...I still found some a bit HARSH...)...I joke alot too...but would never say "anyones" comments or opinions were "Bull-Turd"...( not unless I knew them personally, and they could take it..) ...

..Now I'm 30 and have fished for over 20 years...how?...daddy started taken me before I was 10....started fishin alone when I hit about 14....used to ride my bike with the pole taped or tied to it, and a tackle bag..shoved somewhere... ( NOT THERE )...
..Now in all my years fishing, I usually never offer advice unless asked for...even if I see someone doing something that I felt wouldn't catch a fish...WHY? you ask...because I've seen some of the weirdest tactics produce...so how can I say it won't work?...because its not the way I do it?....or the way its been done for years...?? Nope, I WILL NOT DISCOURAGE ....ONLY ENCOURAGE!!...

THIS WAS NOT INTENDED TO BE A " LET'S BASH PAT " THREAD!!!

...If I smell garbage in the wind, then I know the garbage truck is comin...maybe Pat can smell fish in the wind...

..smile, Pat...be happy...and don't let these fellas get to ya...in the years to come, you'll come up with your own conclusions...

First, I want to say, this isn't to make this thread worse or better, actually I'm trying to close it but I would like to just explain a little something to all of you.

First Dave, why I was fishing that fast in a heavy current. The lure I was using was a Bagley Top Gun. It dives maybe 3 feet at most. It was daytime and I figured any fish that were in there were going to be deep. My train of thought was if I could crank it down deep and let the current keep it there, I could stay in the strike zone muh longer then if I reeled it slow. You know, if I had hooked up doing that, all of you would have been out there doing the same thing.

Second, BM, you are total loon. That's a compliment. You always make me laugh.

Now for everyone:
Up until now, I thought you guys were my friends. I admit it, I'm a moron. I never even saw it coming. I won't be posting here anymore. This isn't a "poor Patrick" speach. I'm letting you know so you can start looking for a new punching bag now. In fact, I won't be much of anywhere online. Once I get mobile, I'll be around. If you see me, your best bet is to avoid me. Know that you aren't my friend. All of you made that decision. Don't say hi, don't even talk to me. If it's important, you know where to e-mail me.

On the off chance that you're serious---as your graduation quiz: deep water, fast current and you think the fish are holding deep. What should be the first thing in your bag---in fact, the only thing---you reach for?

Hint---it ain't anything with the word "Top" in its name.

So much for your instincts. I'll bet you a million dollars DaveS knows the answer.

Well I decided to make one more post.

First, none of my bucktails would have held there. No way no how. That water would have required a 3 oz jig if you wanted it to sink where I thought the fish were. I've never had a need for a 3 oz jig in CT.

Second, over on SOL it tells you how many posts are in a thread.

Third, I DID go fishing tonight. I made the walk down there. A nice long walk with my waders, surfjacket, bag, side bag and my rod. I got one good hit from a schoolie on a teaser and my reel broke. It seems when I was relubing my line roller, I didn't tighten it back down enough and it became loose. Not wanting to lose my manual pick up, I called it quits. Seems like someone borrowed my screwdriver and didn't put it back. Tried tightening it with the edge of my knife but that just didn't work. I also tried to use the bend in a hook and the edge of my pliers.
