what do you guys think of storm plastics?do you use these like regular lures?and what colors would be good to use? thanks

I use them when fishing off Bridges at night... and they have been very successful!

As for color... that all depends on what the bass happen to be hitting at the time...

I also use them as sacrificial offerings to the bluefish gods... whenever I get bored...

bliz, if u gota a bump from a bass at night, what would u do? some guys cast and retrieve it and some guys cast, turn twice, and twitch.

I usually get bumped just prior to having the bass engulf the lure
during a slow retrieve...

and being up on a bridge gives you great leverage...

If you have the room to roam, try what I do down in Duxbury:
It's what I call the "Troll Stroll"
You drop the storm shad about a foot down below the surface and slowly walk along the bridge. Depending on the tide it will either get pushed away or towards the bridge footings. When the fish lurking under the bridge decide to strike (and they will)
be prepared for a strong yank and run. I do the same thing with a 6 inch Sluggo on a 1/4 oz jig.
There's never a dull moment because I've gotten stripers, blues and even seabass on the sluggos, but the Storms are my favorite walking lure.

I love these lures , theyre great!!!!! I caught most of my fish on these. I used the 5 in pearl color. Pearl was by far the most productive color by far. I was killing them during blitzes with the pearl color , while people around me where not hooking anything , throwing poppers and whatever else. I had a cow hoked on one of these that spooled me of all my line and snapped off. Also tried the 9 inchers , but i didnt like them because of the double hook, hooking the fish twice, taking longer to unhook it and more damage to the fish.

You will definately want to change the split ring and hooks out to stronger ones. oither than that they are ok.

They are a great lure. VERY effective...BUT...you need to you a big load of them...Blues cut them like hot knife thru butter.

Some of the other companys are quite good as well. Mr. Charlie makes a nice one...it has a hard head and a soft body.

I have trolled the 9" storm with good success and hope to try the 10" Mr. Charlie this season.

From the surf, they cast pretty good and look like a real friggin fish in the water! I find a steady retrive just fast enough to keep near the bottom, you want it to hit the bottom now and again to let you know it is near it.

They worked well for small tuna last year also. Green and about 4 inch I think.

Most productive lure last year in pearl (april - nov) & bunker (sep - nov). I used the "swim shad" version in 5" and 6" mainly, also used the 9".

As stated prior, these things swim great and fish can't ignore them. Many times these are the olny lures that would catch.

What Moses said--also get some glass rattles from Stamina,insert just above the tail,cast outside of schoolies,let sink to bottom,slow retrieve and hold on.

I'll vote for the 4" Pearl. I fish it 70% of the time and have been very successful in the canal as well as on the beaches. It is bluefish candy and will frequently get cut in half but for the price of the lures....who cares??

interesting, i have tried it on the canal in july at the predawn. I used a 6 inches pearl shad. I did something wrong with it. I jerked or pulled it while retrieving. I should have retrieved it slowly, but twitching it with a ten foot surf rod is difficult for me to tell what I was doing.

Roym-I have caught a young blues on Hyannis water with Elmer on a 4 in bunker storm shad and it engulfed t and I lost the bastard .

Even when bluefish tore these up, they still produced. I would cast out a 2 inch head piece after a blue tore it up and would still rake em in.
