I like them. You nailed them both! What I look for in an identity is a clean graphic represention that re-produces well in any medium and size and simplicity. The artwork should also work well in black and white. Some designers come up with concepts that are just not realistic in terms of end usage.
Both designs are spot-on in my book. Don't shy away from using type, use it to your advantage...
