That is the longest post I have seen Bassmaster put up since I been on this site!
Goose.....I can give you one example of what the fresh water license pays for......stocking the ponds for one! That ain't cheap, twice a year in most spots! So much for NADA!
Plus, I believe you are generalizing about the catch and release numbers between guys who keep in salt and guys who keep in fresh! I know plenty of guys who keep their catch from fresh water, you must not. Do you even buy a fresh water license?

Man, I pay enough to go outdoors. I haven't bought a freshie ticket this year 'cause I use it 4-5 times and it just ain't worth the nearly 30 bucks. The 5 buck fee that's tagged on for wild land or whattheever isn't paid by hikers, treehuggers, or peta punks. They ride for free on our dime and hijack our fees. I'm not giving them any more dough to run me off the beach. Feel better now, thanks

Well I might be for a Lic if we were going to get something out of it!!!
Here on Cape Cod we are circled by water yet have no access to it!! Will this change?? I think not!! The rich will never let it happen!
Will they fix and build Boat ramps?? I think not!! Were would they put them? And were do we park if they do? They did the hole Woods Hole ramp over!! For who?? You can't park any were!!
Are they going to stock the wild ocean so we catch more fish?? Nope not happening !!
Will the Nantional Sea Shore Like P-Town Turo give us free stickers for the beach?? Nope Not!!
Will the State promise not to take are money into the general fund?? Yea then steal it later like they did the fresh water lic moneys!!!
So lets see what are we getting if we pay this fee in the name of fishing ??
Oh Yea SCREWED!!!!
So stripman take your lic idea and Shove it!!!

Larry, ??? I'm not aware of any place in mass that large mouth are stocked.
I've been around avid freshwater bass fisherman all my life, my brother is one of them. Because I work with him I gota hear how they get juiced with increased licences and nothing to show for it. IMO what it boils down to is large mouth fisherman are paying to stock trout that alot of them don't even fish. We'll never know the exact numbers but I am well aware that there is a high number of freshwater bass ain't gettin chit.
As far as C R goes, why would fresh water bass fisherman wanna keep their catch? It doesn't make sence and thats why MOST don't....I hear more and more fish over #8 being released even bass that are consideriably bigger and being throw back and having replica's made.
To me this is another reason why Mass is backa$$wards

I think a one-time "ho" tax on Bassmaster's entire plug collection could more than pay for conservation efforts on the striper coast.
I better run now, Dave is gonna kill me...

Regardless, stocking (and yes I mean trout, salmon, etc.) is paid for with monies generated by freshie fishing licenses!

goose is right, the ramps are terrible in MA. i bet Raider Ron knows, look at lake pearl. the ramp there is basically nonexistent, i don't see how anyone could launch from there

27.50 to 50.00
hey thats way to inexpensive!!! heck i've got piles of money just laying around getting dusty......so lets make it 200 bucks ..... then ...... you can just drive to the ocean..... and have the fish march two by two right into the back of your car....and it should be inforced.
and we can have those lazy smelly Bass pick up all the GD trash too on their way. we should take prisoner's and make them talk too.

I honestly think you should give up fishing and pick up knitting, the cost is less, no licenses needed, the web-sites are alot more like chat-rooms...and lastly -
..knitters love to "stitch and bitch".
I know this from experience. I used to be a knitter, now I'm just a bitch

Striprman - back to the topic (you sure your last name isn't Coates??). Why should ANOTHER tax be placed on anglers for something that already raises significant tax revenue for the state? YES, SATLWATER FISHING draws so many tourism dollars to the state, DMF should receive MORE state funds to do what you ask. Between tourism, sales tax on fishing gear (not including the federal tax - know about that one?) ...
I could go on but no time right now...

Do you think that the tourist draw generates more money for the state than a licence would ? I think people would be happy to pay for a licence if they knew the money was being used to make saltwater fishing better for everyone.

I will play the game!!
How is charging moneys the the Gov. will take into the general fund going to help Salt water fishong??
The Gov has cut funding to just about everthing!! And all the towns are starving!! So they are rasing fees for boat ramps and beach stickers boat reg. ect ect....
So you pay for a salt lic and they take the cash into the general fund and never give that money to the Salt water fishing that you say it will help! So who or what are we paying for??
I think John should make a A$$HOLE like you pay for every stupid dum A$$ Idea you post!! In the name of supporting the board! Then when he has anough (and with people like you that won't take long) Go on a nice big Family vacation never putting the money into the board at all and then see how you feel when you have no were else to go!
