What do you think about the Witmer sisters from the Wisconsin National Guard whose sister was KIA in Iraq?

Now, the military says that if they choose not to they don't have to return to hostilities.

The right to choose now extends to the military does it? They talk about the slippery slope and this is where it has gotten us. The armed forces are not a social program or a experiment to build the perfect society.

Women do not belong in combat, period. I am sorry if I offend anyone, but seeing those two young girls crying on national TV reinforces my belief. I knew guys in the Army who couldn't pack the gear and I cannot think of one woman I know who I would want beside me in Iraq.

What did they think the military was for??? College programs? Equal rights? The JAG show on ABC???

Those girls have an obligation to their unit which is still in the line of fire.

It is an excellent piece of film, and it gets more powerful everytime I see it. I do get it believe me. I understand the implications on a family when their sons, and now daughters, get KIA.

However, I would be willing to bet a year's pay that at least some of the 500+ other soldiers who have been killed in combat also have siblings serving in country. And they continue to serve there proudly.

But, since this death involved three sisters who look like they could have walked out of any University in America, it becomes a great story for the media. Please don't get me wrong, I am very saddened when I see that we lose another soldier in such a god forsaken place as Iraq. Being a soldier for one's country is one of the most noble things a person can do, IMHO.

I was in the infantry Mako, and if it were my brother killed it would have been completely devastating to me. But it would have been wrong to not return to my unit.

BTW, have you seen the mini series "Band of Brothers" about the 506th Airborne Infantry in WWII?

One soldier finds his brother was killed a day before jumping into France with the 506th. Seems to me we were a vastly different country at one time...

I too served, you do what you have to do. When you put your right hand up it means a lot more than an extra couple hundred bucks a month for working the weekend.

Do I feel bad, yes, but YOU MADE YOUR CHOICE NOW LIVE WITH IT!!! There are people who are depending on you, many of which endured far greater pain and suffering so we can live the lifestyle we enjoy today.

you say this is the most noble thing a "person" can do but its not a womans place....so youre saying women arent real people I guess. I am sorry that you are a very narrow minded individual.

For all it's worth....

Women are equal to men.....both have the right to enlist in the armed services, both have an equal right to serve our country, and both have an equal right to take their chances in combat. Both have an equal right to die for their country.

But NEITHER has the right to decide they don't want to serve after they have already enlisted, made the committment and have received many benefits as a result. Period.
