Another thing you might have had going on---it's possible that the spool wasn't seated all the way on the base of the shaft. Sometimes the two slotted metal washers get mis-aligned with the flat side of the shaft and the spool doesn't seat right. You tighten the knob and think you have a lot of drag and in reality you don't have hardly any.
Sometimes the whole load of Power Pro will turn on the spool if you didn't wind on enough mono backing, but you wouldn't have heard the drag clicker sounding in that case.
