I'll PM ya the results of tomorrow's recon - this is strictly a catch and fillet fishery for me 'cause I wanna stock the freezer for next winter's chowda - but on light tackle it's a freakin' blast. Who would thunk it?

It really is sight-fishing too - you can often see them rolling on the surface and swimming within feet of you if you don't spook 'em - it's a real hoot. Don't know how long it's gonna last, it appears to be spawning and territorial behavior. I would guess the spawn's probably gonna end soon with rising water temps - gotta talk to my friend who's an RI principal biologist to see if this is true.

Oh yeah, when ya get on this side of the bridge wait'll ya see the 1875 tautog natural history illustration I just got - it's from the U.S. National Museum, the best I've seen yet. Beats the hell out of the Denton color tog (which I have but have never been that crazy about). Exquisite Victorian tog porn

Anyway, I'll let ya know how it goes via PM

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
