Mabee a rabbit....... Out west they used to catch jack rabbits (hares) and break a leg or 2 to lure in the yotes. The screech the rabbits make is unnerving . Not to hijack your thread but they used house cats too. ( didn't break their legs though.) The cat would be placed in a havahart trap and left to sit out of sight. After an hour or so the cat would start to meow. You should see the yotes come running.
They (coyotes) are hard to hit on the run.
