There's been a lot of discussion lately about the catch and release survival rate of fish and there seems to be good points on both sides of the issue. The smaller fish unfortunetly had been hooked poorly and we thought the survival of said fish didn't look promising, so in the cooler it goes. Typically it probably would've been released, but in my opinion with the shape this fish was in, why waste it? Perhaps throw it back in just to catch a larger one? I could never understand when cod fishing you catch a shorty after hauling it up from 200 ft. of water, guts hanging out of its mouth and it has to go back. Waste of fish imo. Maybe keep the first two stripers caught, regardless of size and go home? Just a thought
