Beachmaster
Picked up some (I think) Beachmaster atom40 style swimmers.... unrigged of course... any suggestion as to what people have put on for hooks... thinking 4/0 on front, 3/0 on belly and 3/0 or 6/0 siwash on tail...
Anyone used these babies... they look schweeet... something different than my usual dannies rebals and needles...

as with all atom40's, 4/0 on the two bellies. with or without a siwash on the tail depending on where you are swimming her.

no problem. the beachmaster 40's swim a little better than the original 40's in a good current. drop the tail hook and they kick real nice on top.

The latter is better for me.. I generally fish the current with hooks that have only one hook

definitely tie some bucktail and krystal flash on to the rear siwash's to accentuate the snakelike motion. Doesn't have to be fancy and you don't have to be a fly tyer...

Being made out of maple they swim much deeper. I like the medium one with one belly hook. Try the gold/black they are the nutz!

I leave the middle hook hanger empty.
With Mustad 3x I used a 5/0 on the front hook, but with the 4x VMCs it's back to a 4/0. 6/0 Siwash with bucktail or feathers on the rear. Some guys like to cut the tail hook at the bend and just have the fur or feathers as a teaser.

Hey Toby!! I got some plugs to try from Al Gag's. The Squidzee thingies but when I was talking to him I tried to convince him he should make wooden needles again. I think I got him thinking. One can only hope.

middle hook
I agree, no middle hook. For years we took the middle hooks off the Dannys. Even Charlie Murat made his plugs without the middle hook.
Bass are "head hunters" so the middle hook rarely matters.

Beachmaster 40's are made of pine, if they were made of maple they would be well over 5 oz's. I fish them with 2 4/0 vmc 4x trebles on the belly and a 4/0 siwash tial or no tail hook.
