Lockout

How long will this last? I don't know how the NHL can survive a lockout of any length of time, let alone a long one.

anything over the start of the season will bankrupt the nhl. the fans are fed up, they WILL NOT come back, and the nhl will be gone, gone due to greed of already rich bastards who could live the rest of their lives without making a cent.
im sick of it, I, for one will never watch an nhl game again. I RENOUNCE THE SPORT!!

maybe it will be a good thing if half the teams go under, way too many teams for nhl/fans to support now. less teams= quality hockey. let the strong survive. original six.....

Amen, After...you can say that about EVERY pro sport. Dilluted mediocrity being passed off as exciting. Watch a game(any sport) that you have no rooting/betting interest in and you see how the owners are putting out an inferior product. Too many teams= too many players.

I read that like 20 NHL teams will accually save money during the lockout.....Now thats messed up. The players make way too much money than what the teams generate in revenue. Im with the owners on this one. You cant run a team and lose money all the time.

Its time to embrace the AHL. At least the ticket prices are reasonable. And its usually a great take for the kids

NHL = No Hockey League

I was a kid in grade school when the Bruins won their cups. That was hockey. Boston was a hockey town. Orr was god.

I remember plastering my bedroom walls with those cheesy 4 color newsprint posters from the Globe and adjusting the rabbit ears to get WSBK to come in clear. Every day after school, it was street hockey until the lights came on. (or the ponds if they were frozen). I played baseball and football but hockey was king.

Orr, Esposito and Cheevers have been replaced by greedy, stubborn and stupid.

Maybe this will be a good thing in the long run. Eliminate the marginal talent, make the game affordable, reduce the constant player trading and make the game exciting. Who cares if it's never as big as baseball or football. I've never been interested in following the crowd.

Maybe I'll finally get something done around the house this winter. Probably not, since my son is on a Mite travel team. There will be plenty of hockey this Winter.

By the way, I touched the cup last Sunday. I pulled into the parking lot at West Beach in Beverly to check for bird action and there it was. The team shrink for the Lightning had it for the day and brought it to the beach.

It was such an awesome world cup too! It's a shame, the last thing this sport needs is a lockout. Ratings are aweful to begin with, espn already cancelled nhl tonight (which i love) prior to the lockout. Who do you guys side with the players or management?

Ain't nothing, and i mean nothing like the stanley cup playoffs -it's just a little different......

the players make more than the owners can afford to pay, but the owners are the ones who escalated the salaries...so, imho, the owners started it, now it can't be sustained, and the players are too greedy to give back. They deserve each other, and whatever happens to them.

As an aside, I don't see how anyone can get all psyched over a pro team in any sport. That ended long ago for me and most of the guys i know. The owners don't give a rat's arse about you and the players hold you in contempt. Just watch your boys after a loss that has you ready to jump out of a window...or walk past a kid like he's invisible...or retire in order to move to a different team...the list of examples how the players can't stand you can go on, but it's depressing.

I'm with the owners on this one. Too many teams and not enough talent. They gotta pay to get anyone any good. A marginal player makes over a million a year where they wouldn't have had a shot in the NHL 10-15 years ago.

If all those teams are losing money I don't care if they fold. Was better in the 60's and 70's with alot less teams.

The owners dug themselves into a hole by using exorbitant expansion franchise fees to help out the existing teams make budget.

In real life, that's called a Ponzi scheme and lands you in the joint.

Look who owns the Original 6---Molsons, Bill Wirtz, Cablevision, the cheapskate effin' Jacobs brothers, among others. Some of the deepest pockets in professional sports.

IMO the NHL needs to dump some of the expansion teams. Put a hold on bringing in the European talent until the players from the the other teams can be folded into the mix. Set a salary cap, and delay the building of new facilities until the ship is righted.

The NHLPU is cutting of their own greedy noses. Pro Sports Unions are an OXYMORON. If I got paid my union salary to play a sport that I truly love to play, it is better than working any day.

They sure didn't help drive up player salaries
