First Fish on Salty's needle!
Got my first fish tonight while fishing one of #^^^^^^^^^^^&s blurple stubby needlefish! Ive had the needle for a few months now but just never fished the thing. Im so stubborn and pretty much only use the plugs that produced for me in the past (poppers, small mambos, Storms) I was fishing the upper bay tonight and it was rather slow with nothing showing accept for the swirl every now and then. I coundlt get Chit on anything! Then first cast with saltys needle and Bang!! nice little schoolie....a few cast later another small bass....and to end the evening a nice Blue to go with it! Lots of swirls around the plug too. My question is....how do most you guys fish these small needles? I didnt know the propper tecnique so i was doing a walk the dog kinda retrieve switching up speeds and just trying to leave a nice wake, just constlty twiching the rod during the retrieve....Seemed to work great tonight....Is the the correct retrive for this lure is my question? and what might be a good color choice for daytime? Anyway, i was just pumped and impressed with the needle so thought id give props to #^^^^^^^^^^^&!

I fish I needle really slow with the occasional twitch and pause. If they aren' t taking it like that then I will work like you were talking about, like a pencil. But I find that usually they want it r e a l l y slow. During the day I like olive, or yellow.

needlefish are one of the most versitale plugs out there IMo... You can work them on top like a spook, you can work them on top like a popper, you can sloooowly bring them in making a v-wake.. then you can go sub-surfce... then you can go deeep... I love needlefish.
bassmaster has written some great how-too stuff on needlefishing. I've gleaned most of my needlefish techniques from listening to his advice
Its in the How-to's forum..

Nice to hear Skip!
I've gotten more emails than I can count this summer all saying the same thing about that stubby, it catches when other stuff won't. I've had guys tell me they fish them off the jetties where there are 5-10 other guys out there fishing and the only one hooking up is the guy with the stubby

LMAO She just got a big enough wedding ring that I hope she is blinded for a while yet. Good thinking.
