>>I sure wish I had brought my canoe as I'm pretty sure it was schoolies busting up something in the salt pond. <<

I'm sorry I missed meeting up with Saltheart and the rest of the guys; but in fact me and my two pals did arrive in Westerly with kayaks in tow. Thursday night we had consistent action from the rocks at the end of the Weekapaug Breachway, picking up quite a few bass and a couple of blues. But from then on, the shoreline only held a few fish for us, and so we broke out the kayaks. Near Quonny (sp?), every morning until about 9 or 9:30, the birds were on fish about a 1/2 mile out and we had a grand time chasing them around, catching bass in the mid-20s. With that, and the weather, our trip was turning out great. Then, on Saturday night, we launched into Quonny pond for a spectacular evening way back on the flats. One of us got a 34" bass on a fly rod -- in about 6" of water. I got a 32" fish not long after. We met another yaker who had a huge bruiser of a keeper strapped across the back of his boat. Great fun, though we did waste some effort casting at lots of surface noise that we later found out was caused by hickory shad. All in all -- vundoobar! And I heartily recommond kayak fishing -- without our boats, the trip would have been a lot slower.
